‘A Simple Favor’ Sequel Is In Development, Anna Kendrick And Blake Lively Set To Return

Like a thunder out of a clear sky, Deadline has reported that Amazon Studios and Lionsgate are developing a sequel to the 2018 black comedy crime thriller A Simple Favor. Paul Feig, director of the first movie, will return to direct a sequel, and Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively are both set to reprise the roles of Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson, respectively.

Based on Darcey Bell’s 2017 novel of the same name, A Simple Favor was released in September 2018. The critics praised the movie’s plot twists and performances of Kendrick, Lively, and Henry Golding, who played Sean Townsend. The movie grossed $97.6 million against the reported budget of $20 million, which Lionsgate apparently considers a decent success to greenlight a sequel.

A Simple Favor followed a single mother Stephanie Smothers whose kid goes to the same elementary school as the kid of Emily Nelson. Stephanie and Emily meet and quickly become good friends, but after secretive Emily goes missing, Stephanie decides to find out what is really happening,

Spoiler alert. The first movie ended with Stephanie becoming a vlogger with millions of followers and working as a part-time private detective, while Emily was arrested and charged to 20 years in prison. It’s not known how will the story continue in the sequel.
