Fast X, the tenth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise is in its first week of production. Earlier this week, Universal Pictures revealed the official title and the announcement that the movie entered production, as well as the list of the confirmed returning stars. The franchise’s lead star and the producer Vin Diesel posted a video on Instagram with the movie’s director Justin Lin, teasing, but not revealing what we can expect from the next installment of the saga. As the movie’s production will go forward, we expect more information and teases.
Today, Charlize Theron, known for the role of cyberterrorist Cipher in the last two movies — The Fate of the Furious and F9 — revealed the first look at herself in the upcoming tenth movie. Two images she posted on her official Instagram account aren’t revealing any specifics about the movie’s plot, which is still unknown, but we can see that Cipher will not a completely new look. We can say that she loves to change her haircut every once in a while.
Charlize Theron joined the franchise in the eighth installment, The Fate of the Furious, in which she played the main villain who managed to turn Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto against his family by kidnapping Elena, Dom’s ex, and their son Dom didn’t know he had. Although he was in Cipher’s trap, Dom managed to defeat her with the help of Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw, who saved the child. But unfortunately, Elena was killed by Cipher’s henchman. Before Deckard managed to get her, Cipher escaped and went into hiding.
In the ninth film, she appeared in a reduced role, as a secondary antagonist. At the end of the movie, she was flying a jet in an attempt to kill Dom, but Dom destroyed the plane. Although seemingly dead, it was revealed that Cipher was flying the jet on a computer simulator and she managed to escape once again. It’s unknown what is going to be her plan next, but it seems like they’re setting her up to be the ultimate villain of the franchise.
Theron reprises the role of Cipher in Fast X, and with Aquaman star Jason Momoa joining the franchise in a villainous role, it’s safe to say we can expect more than just one villain again. FYI, there are also talks about the possible spin-off movie centered on Theron’s character.
Directed by the franchise’s veteran Justin Lin, Fast X is currently in production, and it’s expected to land in theaters on May 19, 2023.
