Fortnite’s ‘No Build’ Mode May Be Permanent After All

On Sunday, Epic Games launched Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2, offering up usual changes to a new season – map changes, a new Battle Pass, vaulted and unvaulted weapons – but there was a pretty substantial change that nobody saw coming, too. Fortnite disabled the building mechanically temporarily as part of the Imagined Order’s latest plot to unbalance the Battle Royale world.

As this was part of the season’s story, with players tasked with completing challenges in order to help maintain the ability to maintain resistance, many players assumed this was simply a temporary option. However, as discovered by Twea – A Fortnite leaker on Twitter – It appears as though a Fortnite ‘No Build’ mode will become a permanent fixture instead.

Twea also noted that there are ‘other versions of it too,’ referring to the Duos, Trios and Squads modes for different sized parties.

While some may believe this is the result of a positive reception to the refreshing take of ‘no build’ mode brought to Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode, it should be noted that Twea spotted this mode on Monday, just a day after this. season had gone live.

As such, it’s likely Epic Games always planned to add a ‘No Build Battle Royale’ mode in Fortnite once the initial eight-day stint of the mechanic being disabled in the main game modes had its course.

The removal of the building mechanic proved to be particularly popular with fans, with GameSpot’s Mark Delaney’s Twitter poll finding over 48,000 votes winning a ‘No Build Mode’ vote by 63.5%.
