How To Connect iPhone To Mac Using a Cable

Connecting your iPhone to a Mac allows you to sync content, delete data, and update settings. A charging cable will be used to make the connection. It may be necessary to purchase an adapter, depending on the device you own.

If you have a USB port on your Mac and your iPhone uses a Lightning to USB cable, you can plug it directly in. For those whose Macs are only equipped with USB-C cables, such as the MacBook Pro 2021, an adapter will be necessary. A USB-C to Lightning cable isn’t compatible with computers that only have one USB port, such as the MacBook Air M1, 2020. It’s also necessary to buy an adapter if your iPhone uses a USB-C to Lightning cable.

Basically, you’ll need an adapter so long as your iPhone cable matches your Mac’s port.

On macOS Catalina, or later, you can still work with your data while updating your iPhone if you’re able to connect with an adapter or not. See below for more information.

You will need iTunes if you are using an older version of macOS before Catalina.

step 1: Open the Finder on your computer and plug your phone in.

step 2: Select the iPhone places section in the sidebar.

step 3: In the event that you have not yet updated your iPhone or device, you may be asked to do so. All you have to do is follow the instructions.

step 4: Afterwards, you can work with the stuff you need in Finder using the tabs directly below your iPhone information.

Step 5: Having finished, you can remove your iPhone from the Finder sidebar by clicking the remove icon. Afterward, you can remove the cable from the iPhone and Mac.
