The announcement was made via Samsung’s official Twitter account. According to the tweet below, AMD’s RDNA2-based GPU will power the next-gen Exynos chipset. Also found on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are AMD RNDA2 graphics. A partnership with AMD back in 2019 has resulted in this project.

There will be ray-tracing capabilities for the first time on a smartphone SoC, and the chipset will be gaming-focused. The purpose of ray tracing in 3D rendering is to simulate light for more realistic lighting and better graphics.

Additionally, the Exynos 2200 is expected to include a number of upgraded features. According to previous reports, the upcoming Exynos chipset could host a Cortex-X2 core clocked at 2.9GHz, three cores clocked at 2.8GHz, and four cores at 2.2GHz. A recent leak suggests AMD’s GPU will be called Xclipse 920, offering up to 17 percent performance improvements over its predecessor. The CPU, on the other hand, is expected to offer just 5 percent performance improvements over the Exynos 2100, while AI and machine learning capabilities will increase by 117%.

The performance and efficiency of the upcoming chipset will be improved over last year’s Exynos 2100, even if not much is known yet about it. Although it will probably ship with the highly-rumored Galaxy S22 series, some regions (including Europe and India ) that typically get Exynos-based handsets might get Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 S22 handsets this time.

The Exynos 2200 chipset from Samsung will not be available until January 11, however. Be sure to stay tuned to the Samsung website for all the latest updates as we get closer to the launch event on January 11th!
