Severance is a hit series that was able to become one of the most compelling shows that you can watch on Apple TV Plus. It is a unique take on the sci-fi genre because of how close to him it can be to some people. As such, it has had a lot of fans ever since its release, and it has made fans more anxious for what’s to come in the future of this series. So, when will Severance season 2 be released?
While Severance has already been renewed for a second season, there is yet no timetable for season 2’s release. It has only been renewed in the first week of April, and that means that the production crew is yet to film the second season. As such, we may have to wait until the middle of 2023 for season 2 of Severance.
Even though season 2 of Severance is yet to be filmed as of this writing, the good news is that it will happen, and that means that fans shouldn’t wonder whether or not they will get a second season of this hit series. In that regard, let’s look at what we know about season 2 of Severance and when it could possibly release.
Severance Season 2 Release Date
While Apple TV isn’t the most popular streaming service out there, it did hit gold with the Ben Stiller-directed Severance, which is one of the most unique drama series out there. Severance has become quite popular among sci-fi fans because of how it explores a narrative that a lot of people haven’t seen in the past before. And a lot of people can say that this is one of the best series that the decade has to offer.
In a nutshell, Severance is a series that explores a dystopian world where employees undergo a surgical procedure called Severance, which separates their work-related memories from their personal life memories. That means that they are basically living two different worlds in the sense that they only care about work whenever they’re at work. However, when one of the employees steadily begins to remember the memories he had before the procedure, a web of conspiracy begins to unravel.
So, in a sense, this is a very unique take on the sci-fi genre not only because it is somewhat new but also because a lot of people can’t help but relate to it, considering that some of the fans of Severance are also regular employees themselves. And because of how big of a hit Severance has become, fans are itching to know more about season 2 of this instant classic.
The good news for fans is that, early in April, Apple TV Plus announced that they had just renewed Severance for a second season. This announcement came ahead of the final episode of the series, as Ben Stiller himself took to social media to make the announcement. Of course, Apple TV Plus made an announcement as well.
“It’s really exciting to see the response from people who are loving the show—and the level of fan engagement,” Stiller said. “It has been a long road bringing ‘Severance’ to television. I first read Dan’s pilot over five years ago. It has always been a multi-season story and I’m really happy we get to continue it. I’m grateful to our partners at Apple TV+ who have been behind it the whole way. Praise Kier!”
“Thanks to creator Dan Erickson, the brilliant Ben Stiller, and an incomparable cast and crew, ‘Severance’ has imagined an existence that’s equal parts riveting and enthralling as viewers around the globe can’t get enough of these rich characters,” Matt Cherniss , head of programming for Apple TV Plus, said. “We’re excited to go deeper into this wholly unique world and unpack more layers of Lumon in season two.”
But while we do know that Severance season 2 is coming, what we don’t know is when it will be arriving. We do know that it took a while for season 1 to finish its production, given the fact that a good part of the series was produced during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Of course, initial preparations for a series tend to take longer than producing the next seasons. This is why it took almost three years for the entire first season to get released.
Measure, we do believe that the second season will be released faster than the first one because the production probably won’t take as long. That means that it is quite possible that season 2 of Severance will be released around the same time in 2023 or during the middle or late portions of that year as well. Of course, that will only be possible if Stiller and the rest of the crew have begun working on it already, following the announcement made by Apple TV Plus.
Severance Season 2 Trailer
As of the moment, we don’t have a trailer for season 2 of Severance because nothing about it has been released. The showrunners and writers are probably still in the middle of writing the story of the second season and preparing for the start of the full-on production. That’s why we have to wait until the filming wraps up before the trailer for season 2 gets released.
Severance Season 2 Plot
Because of how surprising the ending of season 1 of Severance is and how there are plenty of twists that can happen in the next season, we have no idea what season 2 of Severance will be about. Of course, the shocking ending doesn’t reveal a lot of details and openings for what the future holds for the series but what we do know is that the creator already has a few plans written for season 2 of Severance.
Dan Erickson, who created the show, already has some stuff figured out for Severance season 2 and has already drafted an outline for the “big alpha plan” that will be involved in the series. Of course, he already has some of the philosophical stuff written down as well, especially considering that this kind of a series tends to require a lot of prep time because of how much mind-melting show it can be.
That said, season 2 of Severance promises to be even bigger than the first season. Of course, there are plenty of different twists and turns that are going to happen in the second season, similar to how a lot of people were shocked by the ending of season 1.
Severance Season 2 Cast
It is safe to say that season 1 of Severance is quite the cliffhanger because of the way it ended. However, the good news is that we can expect the important members of the cast to make a return for season 2, especially after Apple TV Plus had announced that Severance was renewed. As such, we expect the following characters to make a return:
- Adam Scott as Mark
- Britt Lower as Helly
- John Turturro as Irving
- Zach Cherry as Dylan
- Patricia Arquette as Mrs. Cobel
- Tramell Tillman as Milchek
On top of that, there is a good possibility that new characters will be added into the mix, especially because of how successful Severance is as far as the critics and fans are concerned.
